Cinco De Mayo!

We held a Cinco de Mayo dinner and basket auction for our annual camp fundraiser. Sister Portillo came in and taught the girls (and us gringo leaders) how to make authentic homemade tortillas. It took a few batches to get the feel of it, but by the end of the night we had pressed almost 300 tortillas for the dinner.

Learning to Save a Life

The girls just completed their annual CPR training for camp. A big thanks to Marby for volunteering to certify them this year. The girls not only learned how to do manual CPR, but also how to properly use an AED.

4th year & JC Campout

Friday night we loaded up and prayed that the rain would hold off and headed out to Alvin for a night of sitting around the bonfire and attempting to dodge fire ant mounds in the dark. We arrived, set up tents and made tinfoil dinners. The JC (Junior Counselors) & 4th years will be leaders at Young Womens Camp in July. This was an opportunity for the girls to get to know one another and talk about their responsibilities for the summer camp.

We burned the midnight oil playing games and telling stories.

Personal Progress Sleepover & Temple Trip

What an awesome group of girls! Not too long ago we had a sleepover followed by a trip to the Houston Temple. Friday evening we gather together at Amber's casa. We had such a good time together; cooking dinner, working on completing our goals for personal progress, and playing games. The soup was delicious and everyone worked really hard and did a lot to pass off their goals - keep it up! And the games were hilarious! Seriously. Rebecca came out our champ for the CHUBBY BUNNY game. How many marshmellows did you stuff in your mouth? Well it was too many for anyone else to handle. Christina was the fastest York Peppermint Paddy eater for the challenge of opening the most candy wrappers wearing kitchen mittens and using knives. Although Miranda sure did roll a lot of 6's. We all went to bed hyper from the late night sugar rush. The next day we went to the temple to do baptisms for the dead. It was the first time for some of us, and certainly not the last. Every temple trip brings us closer to our Father in Heaven because we are performing His sacred work there. The girls' testimonies grew from this experience, and they shared with us the following day at church words of love to descibe their personal experience. We are so grateful to belong to the true church of God on Earth and to feel his abundant love each day of our lives. And as leaders we are truely blessed to be amongst so many valiant daughters of God.
