Little Beehive Bakers

Tonight, for the beehive class activity, we baked cookies. Each girl was assigned an ingredient and we followed a recipe for chocolate chip cookies made from scratch. Some of the girls wanted the recipe, and I said that I'd post it on here. So if you want the recipe for these yummy treats follow this link:

Don't forget to check out the short video clip @ the end. And please leave comments. :)

The girls split up in 2 teams to make as many cookies as possible in the short time we had. So the following clip was made in hopes to motivate the girls.

This activity provided experience and preparation for 2 important life lessons:
1) Team work
2) Following instructions
Who knew baking cookies with 9 girls in one kitchen would teach such valuable lessons.

Armand Bayou Prairie Restoration

We arrived there at 8:30am for instructions and we were led to the field where we began to work hard throughout the morning. It was nice weather to be outside laboring in the wheat fields. A clear sunny day with cool breezes. We got a little muddy too as you can see in the photos - o.k. VERY muddy for some of us. It was a great experience planting and digging and trying not to fall into a mud hole. We learned a lot about the bayou and the field we were restoring. Afterwards we headed back to the picnic area to clean up and have some pizza. We walked along the bison fence and had a friendly encounter with the 2 young, but huge animals. Next time we'll all make sure to wear some boots!

Speed Friendships

Everybody seemed to enjoy the 'speed friendships' combined activity hosted by the YM. It was a creative get-to-know-you activity. They lined up a long row of chairs facing each other and placed a card with a question on each chair. After the alloted time one row would move down a seat and so on. It turned out pretty well. Some people made up their own questions and others had very interesting answers. "If you could have one super power what would you choose?" There got to be so many youth show up that we had to keep adding on chairs until we were almost out the door - both directions! Skittles was our preferred snack of the evening. =)
